This exploratory study investigates how civil engineers in London approach global responsibility and integrate ethics and professionalism into their work, analyzing their moral philosophies and the alignment with professional standards. Findings indicate that while participants readily associate health and safety with global responsibility, ethics, anti-corruption, and bribery were primarily discussed when prompted, suggesting a gap in how ethical decisions are embedded in company policies. The study concludes that the shared sense of professional duty may be too limited to meet the goals set by professional engineering bodies and the United Nations, and emphasizes that sustainability is increasingly being viewed as a subset of ethics within engineering practices.
