The study assessed English language proficiency of college freshmen at Northern Iloilo State University using the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR), focusing on listening, reading, spoken interaction, spoken production, strategies, language quality, and writing. It found that most students were classified as independent users, with significant proficiency differences observed based on course and campus, but not on sex or age. The study provides valuable insights into the proficiency levels and suggests educational strategies to enhance language skills at NISU.
