Geographic information systems (GIS) are essential for analyzing and interpreting spatial data in fisheries science. In the face of cost limitations associated with proprietary GIS software, this article introduces fisheries managers to free or open-source GIS tools that offer robust spatial analysis capabilities. Managers are encouraged to utilize these accessible alternatives to perform necessary spatial analyses without incurring significant expenses.
