FACTORS AFFECTING THE INTEREST OF STUDENTS IN THE TEACHING PROFESSION ABSTRACT This study evaluated the factors affecting the interest of Teacher Education students of Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College in the teaching profession. The students were categorized according to their family income, their mothers "ambition for them and peer group. These were evaluated through confirmatory assessment made by randomly selected participants from the Teacher Education Department. The descriptive survey method was used to obtain information from the data. The respondents' answers were based on their own interest in the teaching profession and experiences while enrolled in Teacher Education by rating a set of evaluation instruments. The T-test was utilized to determine the family income of the respondents. One-Way ANOVA was used to as certain the magnitude of the scores of the father’s and mother’s ambition for their children. The Chi-square was also utilized to determine the relationship of the peer group o the interest of the students in teaching. Results indicated that the students had very high family income and fathers' ambition for them.
