This study examines the concept of "global responsibility" in civil engineering, highlighting its association with ethics, sustainability, and social obligation, and analyzing the opportunities and challenges faced by early-career civil engineers in London. Interviews with nine engineers reveal that while the term "global responsibility" itself might be novel, the underlying principles are well-established, with professional development playing a key role in their comprehension, and material selection and Health & Safety being primary areas to demonstrate responsible action. To support these engineers better in enacting global responsibility, the study recommends that Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) adopt specific procedures, metrics, and curriculum improvements that promote transparency, informed decision-making, and sustainability in practice.
