ABSTRACT
The seaweed fishery in the Municipalities of Carles and Estancia, Iloilo was assessed in November 24, 2016-January 23, 2017. The main purpose of this study is to gain information regarding seaweed farming ,processing, storing and marketing of seaweed in the area. The data were collected using a modified questionnaire and personal Interview with 205 seaweed farmers and three traders' he result showed that three seaweed species ,Kappaphycus alvarezii,K. striatum and Buchuema cottonii were commonly cultured in either Fixed-off-bottom or hanging long line methods. Seaweeds were processed by off-groundsun-drying and keptinused-hogpellet sacks then stored in side bamboo-nipa hut. Among the seven areas, Barangays Daculan and Gogo in Estancia, Barangays Talingting and Buenavista in Carles had the highest production of 263.644 tons, 291.161 tons, 354.665 tons ,and 134.729 tons respectively from 2010 to 2016.Barangays Pantalan, Brgy .Bancal, and Brgy.Manlotin Carles ,had 117.153 tons, 51.709 tons and 50.805 tons, respectively within the period.
